Should I write "Willing to work for less" in my cover letter of my resume?

I really want to get my foot in the door and get some dental assisting office experience before moving on to become a dental hygienist. I'm willing to work underpaid, just so I can have experience. Should I state this somewhere or does it sound too desperate?
