Are art majors actually underpaid and overworked?

I really do not think this is the case at all, since the work tends not to have the grueling factors that make less playful jobs almost like torture if the job forces them to work long ours with low pay. It is just that it happens to be the case that many different artistic careers have low pay until you have proven yourself by producing something substantial to the field.
