How are nurses underpaid?

$22 is the low-end of starting pay where I live. I think it's low pay for a college degree and the responsibilities you have. Now, after 15 years, I'm at $40 an hour and I'm fine with my pay (and the "hidden paycheck" benefits my employer provides), but I wouldn't be happy with $22!
