Why Are Doctors Leaving Medicine?

I've been told from a few hospital administrators that in the United States "the days of truly practicing medicine are over". They say that medicine has become too regulated/restricted, too underpaid, and to tiring to continue because of how stern the field of medicine has become. Is this true? Will it get better or worse?
